# sk98124 - How to verify whether a Management Server's fingerprint has already been trusted by SmartConsole

| Property | Value |
|----------|-------|
| Solution ID | sk98124 |
| Date Created | 2014-01-23 |
| Last Modified | 2024-04-15 |
| Technical Level | Advanced |
| Products | SmartConsole |
| Versions | R82, R81.20, R81.10 (EOS), R81 (EOS) |
| OS | Windows |

## Symptoms

- When attempting to connect to the Management Server with SmartConsole, the following warning is presented:

*Fingerprint of server X.X.X.X was changed.*

*To protect against impersonation, compare the following fingerprint with the one displayed on the server.*

*Fingerprint: XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX*

## Cause

SmartConsole caches the trusted fingerprints for each Management Server's IP address in the Windows Registry. While there are legitimate reasons for which the fingerprint of the Management Server can change, in the event that such a warning occurs, it is recommended to validate the current fingerprint of the Management Server against the previously trusted fingerprint, so as to eliminate any risk of impersonation.
