# sk97507 - Route Based VPN Does not work between Check Point and interoperable device

## Symptoms

- Route based VPN tunnel would not establish between a Check Point Security Gateway and a third party gateway using unnumbered VTI's.

## Cause

The Check Point R77 VPN Documentation states that Route Based VPN is supported on SecurePlatform and Gaia platforms only and can only be implemented between two Security Gateways within the same community. We have figured out how to configure this between a Check Point gateway and a third party gateway in which neither were in the same community*.*
