# sk96106 - ActiveX component fails to load in Windows 7 / Windows 8 / Windows 8.1 Internet Explorer 11

## Symptoms

- * If Java is installed on the host - Launch of SSL Network Extender results in a request to use Java in the browser.

* If Java is not installed on the host - Launch of SSL Network Extender results in an initialization failure.

* If Java is not installed on the host - Launch of ESOD scan fails.

## Cause

As a result of a change in Internet Explorer 11 user agent string, and no automatic fall back to compatibility mode, the browser is not identified as one supporting ActiveX components. The ActiveX component used to launch SSL Network Extender (and other MAB portal components) fails to load.
