* When click Test Connection button on Reports -\>Settings, a Connection Succeeded confirmation received.

* The tcpdump against the SmartEvent interface shows no SMTP traffic.

* Scheduling an automatic report sends a report.

## Cause

The server that you are running SmartEvent from, does not have an email client configured on it, i.e. Outlook or Outlook Express.

Per the R76 SmartEvent Administration guide on page 40 under "Generating Reports":

*This section includes the procedure for manually generating reports.*

*To generate a predefined or custom report:*

*1. Select a report in the Reports tree.*

*2. Click Generate.*

*3. In the Generate a Report window, select or define a report time frame.*
*Note - For your convenience, SmartEvent remembers the last time frame that you used*
*during the current session. This is helpful when you generate several reports using the*
*same time frame.*

*4. Click Generate.*
*After a short time, the report shows in the Reports pane.*
*After you generate your report, you can use one or more of these output options:*
*h To print the report, click Print.*
*h To see the report in a Web browser, click Open in Browser.*
*h To save the report as a PDF, click Save as PDF. In the Save As window, enter the file name and path.*
*h To send an email with the report PDF attached:*
*a) Click Email.*
*b) In your email client, enter the recipient email addresses.*
*c) Enter a subject.*
*d) Click Send.*

## Solution

To resolve the problem, perform ONE of the following:

1. Install the mail client on the server that you are running from the SmartEvent console from.

   OR

2. Run the SmartEvent console from a server that has the mail client installed on it.
