# sk92970 - Configuring Windows for Opal 2 disks

## Symptoms

- Full Disk Encryption SED (Opal) can't be installed on Windows 8.X systems.

## Cause

In order to configure TCG Opal encryption for an Opal disk, the disk must be in life-cycle state "manufactured-inactive". By default, Windows 8.X and above will activate the disk and change the Opal life-cycle state of the disk to "manufactured" upon installation of the OS.
