# sk92364 - Host on network shows an error about duplication of its IP address when ClusterXL with VMAC is used

## Symptoms

- * "`Error, some other host already uses address `*IP_ADDRESS*" error on command line on Linux-based host when restarting the "`network`" service (with "`service network restart`" command) on a host, or when rebooting a host.

* "`Found duplicate IP address `*IP_ADDRESS*" error on Windows-based host when restarting the "`Network Connections`" or "`Server`" service on a host, or when rebooting a host.

## Cause

There are two causes:

1. ClusterXL answers the Gratuitous ARP Requests (sent by hosts on the network) for IP addresses configured in the `$FWDIR/conf/local.arp` file (per [sk30197](http://supportcontent.checkpoint.com/solutions?id=sk30197)).  

2. ClusterXL with VMAC (per [sk50840](http://supportcontent.checkpoint.com/solutions?id=sk50840)) sends Gratuitous ARP Requests for IP addresses configured in the `$FWDIR/conf/local.arp` file (per [sk30197](http://supportcontent.checkpoint.com/solutions?id=sk30197)).
