# sk78700 - Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) does not allow installation or upgrade of SNX unless Administrator Password enabled

## Symptoms

- * Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) does not allow installation or upgrade of SNX unless Administrator Password is enabled.

* Output of "`snx--v`" command on Mac OS X displays lower version than the 
  *$FWDIR/conf/extender/slim_version.txt* file on Security Gateway.

* The SNX installation script *snx_install_osx.sh* is not able to run because the root access is not enabled on Mac OS X.

## Cause

Root access is required on Mac OS X.

## Solution

**Manually install or upgrade SNX on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)**

**Note:** The SSL Network Extender client is downloaded to the user's machine from a Security Gateway.

Follow these steps:

1. Enable the root user on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion):

   Reference: [Enabling and using the "root" user in OS X](https://support.apple.com/en-il/HT204012)
   1. From the *Apple* menu choose *System Preferences...*.
   2. From the *View* menu, choose *Users \& Groups*.
   3. Click the lock and authenticate as an administrator account.
   4. Click *Login Options...*.
   5. Click the "*Edit...* " or "*Join...*" button at the bottom right.
   6. Click the "*Open Directory Utility...*" button.
   7. Click the lock in the *Directory Utility* window.
   8. Enter an administrator account name and password, then click "OK".
   9. Choose *Enable Root User* from the *Edit* menu.
   10. Enter the root password you wish to use in both the *Password* and *Verify* fields, then click "OK".
2. Install/upgrade SNX with the installation script:

   ***su -***   
   ***password: \<Password\>***   
   ***cd /User/\<User_Name\>/Download/***   
   ***sh snx_install_osx.sh***   

3. Verify the SNX version:

   ***snx --v***
