# sk65157 - VPN negotiation fails on MM Packet 4 with 'PAYLOAD-MALFORMED' error due to multiple NAT-D payloads in the IKE packet

## Symptoms

- * '`Connection Failed: Negotiation with site failed`' error on the Endpoint Connect Client.  

* VPN negotiation fails on MM Packet 4 with '`PAYLOAD-MALFORMED`' error in $FWDIR/log/ike.elg file.  

* Large number of interfaces are defined as "`External`" in the Security Gateway object.  

* Remote Access clients fail with the error: "Negotiation with site failed"  
  trac.log show   
  \[IKE\] payloads_count: Too many payloads in packet (257 \> 256)   
  \[IKE\] MM4PacketHandler: Packet parse failed (expecting 1 KE \[DH\], 1 Nonce, maybe some CertReqs)   
  \[IKE\] send_notification: NOT IMPLEMENTED YET   
  \[negs\] \[WARNING\] \[Negotiation::process_event\] (0x00AEF358): \*\*\* Negotiation failed! \*\*\*  

* In the vpnd.elg you will see:   
  ComputeMyNatDHashes: Found 258 interfaces. GW is a cluster   
  ComputeMyNatDHashes: RA NAT-T interfaces limiting is disabled for this negotiation

## Cause

VPN negotiation fails on MM Packet 4 because the IKE packet is too big due to multiple NAT-Discovery entries (payloads).
