# sk60845 - Endpoint Security Server fails to start

## Symptoms

- * If this happens, the following is observed on the server:   
  * Attempt to connect to the server via UI fails on a connection timeout error.

  `$UEPMDIR/engine/conf/local.properties` is about 1 KB.   
  `$UEPMDIR/engine/conf/local.properties.backup` is about 1 KB.
  * The following exception appears in the `%UEPMDIR%\logs\server_messages.log` file:   

    `[DATE TIME] FATAL - Server failed to start. Shutting down..com.checkpoint.uepm.UEPMException:`  
    ` FATAL ERROR initializing the systemat com.checkpoint.uepm.sys.UEPMContext.initAppLevel(UEPMContext.java:186)`  
    `
    at com.checkpoint.uepm.sys.InitServlet.initializeSystem(InitServlet.java:69)`  
    `
    ...`  
    `
    Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: Failed to load database configuration`  
    `
    at com.checkpoint.uepm.db.`

* The issue may happend in case of improper server shutdown, such as caused by a power failure, or partition resize operation.
