## Symptoms

- Here's a short guide that hopefully will simplify the process when troubleshooting basic FDE license activation issues.

## Solution

**First of all, here's a brief explanation in regards to how the communication between FDE and the License Server works, step by step.**

1. The FDE client generates a license request file (machine_name.LRQ) on the license server share.
2. The License server is periodically scanning/monitoring the license server share. When a valid .LRQ file is found, it will be consumed (removed from the share) and a license is pulled from the configured license pool.
3. The License server will now generate a license response file (machine_name.LRS) on the license server share.
4. The FDE client is periodically monitoring/scanning the license server share for the .LRS file. If a valid license response is found by FDE, the license on the client will be activated.

**In order for this process to work as designed, the following conditions must be met:**

* The logged on user account or the FDE service start account must have read/write access to the license server share.
* The License Server service account must have read/write access to the license server share.
* The FDE client must be configured with the correct path to the License server share.
* The License server must be configured with the correct path to the License server share.
* The FDE client must be configured with a license that matches the license installed in the License server pool.
* The FDE client must be configured with a License server password that matches the password configured on the License Server.
