# sk56502 - Provider-1 daemons fwd, cpd and cpca not starting after mds_restore on a new machine

## Symptoms

- fwd, cpd and cpca daemons not starting after restore of a backup

## Cause

Provider-1 uses a so called "leading interface" to bind new CMAs onto it and add the VIP on this interface.

This interface name is also stored in the vip_index.conf File in the conf directory of each CMA.

If a mds_backup taken from another Provider-1 installation is restored on a new machine, it might happen that the leading interface is different, for example it was eth0 on an open server and now is Lan1 on a Smart-1 appliance.

In this case when starting the CMAs on the restored machine, only the fwm process comes up and and the fwd, cpd and cpca process remain on down status. The MDG and the Smartdashborad can connect, but no policies can be pushed etc.

This is due to the fact that the leading interface has a different name on the restored machine. In this case, the CMA can not start the processes and the CMA does not start correctly.
