## Symptoms

- When trying to access the encrypted media, you the error: "The encrypted media file appears to be damaged and is unreadable"

## Cause

Flash based memory sticks are known in the industry as risky low lifespan devices and therefore are not meant to be used as a reliable data repository.
Due to the fragile electronic binary silicon based data cells in these devices, they are subject to frequent corruption and data loss. Check Point strongly recommends that the user back up all files and data stored on an external device (such as HDD, USB, or other flash based device), prior to performing the encryption process. This is due to possible loss of data during the encryption process because of corrupted media.
