# sk43928 - Identity Logging AD administrator credentials test fails when using subdomains; error: "Bad / insufficient credentials"

## Symptoms

- * The Active Directory administrator credentials test ('Test' button in User Identification configuration) in SmartDashboard fails when configuring Identity Logging with a domain that contains a subdomain, when the administrator user resides under the subdomain (and not directly in the 'root' domain).
* Error: "Bad / insufficient credentials."

## Cause

Because of a general limitation when working with subdomains, when the system checks that the configured domain name exists it will not find the subdomain, and consequently fails the test.
