# sk43267 - Recommendations on how to use Pointsec PC/FDE "USB SmartCard support"

## Symptoms

- * Having both USB Legacy support and FDE USB SmartCard support enabled can sometimes make the preboot environment freeze/hang depending on the hardware/BIOS it is installed on.
* Relying on Pointsec PC/FDE "USB SmartCard support" instead of on the BIOS to handle USB keyboard and mouse can be problematic on different hardware/BIOS versions.

## Cause

Different BIOS versions handle USB in different ways. Some BIOS versions may have problems with Pointsec PC/FDE hooking USB.
