# sk41189 - Route Injection Mechanism (RIM) support in NG AI R55 and above

## Symptoms

- The Route Injection Mechanism (RIM) enables a VPN-1 gateway to detect when a VPN tunnel has been established and activated between itself and another VPN-1 gateway, and automatically propagates the peer's VPN domain to its internal network. If the tunnel is deactivated, the peer's VPN domain information is removed, and again, propagates internally via the routing protocol.

## Solution

Route Injection Mechanism (RIM) has been a supported since NG AI R55 only for Multi Entry Point (MEP) VPN-1 Gateways and not for single entry point - standaloneVPN configuration.

From the NGX (R60) release, RIM now supports both single entry point and MEP VPN configurations.

In NG AI R55, RIM is supported with Nokia IPSO VRRP HA VPN-1 gateways.

In NGX (R60) there is support for both Nokia IPSO VRRP and Nokia IP Clustering.

Note: RIM is supported only between Check Point gateways, or Check Point gateways and VPN-1 Edge devices. RIM cannot be used in configurations including 3rd party devices.
