## Solution

Commonly used Abbreviations and Definitions used in VSX:

<br />

\* **VSX** (Virtual System eXtensions)
> VSX is a virtualized security gateway that allows managed service providers and enterprises with virtualized networks to create up to 250 virtual security systems-including firewall, VPN, and intrusion prevention-on a single hardware platform.

**\* VSLS** (Virtual System Load Sharing)
Provides the ability to distribute Virtual Systems across cluster members, effectively distributing Virtual System traffic load within a cluster.

\* **NMDS**(Nokia Multi Domain Security)
> Nokia Virtual Firewall (formally named Nokia Multiple Domain Security) is the packaging of Check Point VSX with a version of the Nokia IPSO operating system version specifically designed for VSX. It is available only on several Nokia IP Security platforms - Nokia IP390, Nokia IP560, Nokia IP690 Nokia IP1220, Nokia IP1260 and Nokia IP2255. Both the v4.0 Release of Nokia Multiple Domain Security and the current release of Nokia Virtual Firewall v5.0 support two legacy platforms (Nokia IP380 and Nokia IP740).

\* **MVS**(Management Virtual System)
> The Management instance that provisions and configures all Virtual Systems and Routers on this VSX Gateway

\* **DMI** (Direct Management Interface)
> A dedicated interface used for management of the VSX Gateway.

\* **Non-DMI** (non-Direct Management Interface)
> A non-dedicated or shared interface to manage the VSX Gateway (usually through *EVR*).

\* **EVR** (External Virtual Router)
> The FireWall-1 instance that connects Virtual Systems with the external network (for example, the Internet).

\* **IVR** (Internal Virtual Router)
> A FireWall-1 instance that connects Virtual Systems with the internal network (for example, a switch). The IVR connects the VS's VLAN interface to the customer network.

\* **VS** (Virtual System)
> A FireWall-1 instance with the FireWall and VPN features of a standard Check Point Gateway.

\* **VR** (Virtual Router)
> A FireWall-1 instance that acts as a router.

\* **VSW** (Virtual Switch)
> A Virtual Switch provides the ability to connect Virtual Systems (VS) without using an External Virtual Router (EVR). A VSW operates at Layer 2, which eliminates the need to segment external public IP network. Thus simplifying topology from Layer 3 to Layer 2 and reducing configuration complexity and overhead. Similar to a physical switch, a VSW maintains forwarding tables with a list of MAC addresses and their associated ports.

\* **MSP** (Service Providers)
> Group of people that manage other customer networks.

\* **wrp/wrpj** (Warp interface)
> A virtual end-point of a Warp Link:
>
> * VS side is named wrp*N*
> * VR / VSW side is named wrpj*N*

**\* Warp Link**
> A virtual point-to-point connection between a Virtual System and a Virtual Router / Virtual Switch.

**\* SMC** (SmartCenter Server)
> Smart Center is used to centrally define all aspects of a security policy: VPNs, network address translation (NAT), Quality of Service (QoS), Web access, desktop and endpoint security, antivirus protections, Smart Defense updates. Objects for networks, hosts, users, services, resources, and actions defined as part of a security policy are visually represented and can be manipulated from within SmartDashboard.

**\* P-1** (Provider One)
> Provider-1 contains multiple customer Smart Centers on one device used for central management.
