# sk39749 - How to block users from going to Hotmail or other MSN services.

## Solution

In order for the Firewall module to check the address it has to have DNS configured on it. In Voyager \> Config \> DNS enter the IP address of the DNS server. Secondary and Tertiary name servers are optional but remember that the firewall must resolve all http domain names to determine if the traffic should pass or not. If it cannot reach a DNS server it will drop the traffic.

To block or redirect traffic to the hotmail mail account or other MSN services with Check Point.

As there are multiple means to get to www.hotmail.com, (hotmail.com, msn.com, and through messenger) using hotmail.com is not a common URL and users will get around it. Currently they all go to "login.passport.net" to prompt you for the user's password.

To stop the traffic create a URI resource.

On the Match page of the resource enter the following:

Shemes: check http  

Enter the Host as: login.passport.net  

<br />

<br />

Push policy to the FW module.  

<br />

<br />

When the user tries to get to Hotmail or other MSN service they will receive a message:

Error  

FW-1 at \<firewall_name\>: Access denied  

<br />

<br />

If you do not want the users to see an error message with the FW name in it, use the Action tab and put in a Replacement URI and redirect the traffic to a different website of your choice.

If you have a web server, you can set up a page with information on it about the company policy on internet use or any other information and direct the traffic there.
