# sk35628 - Security Gateway does not send logs to Management Server after upgrade; FWD daemon is down

| Property | Value |
|----------|-------|
| Solution ID | sk35628 |
| Date Created | 2008-07-28 |
| Last Modified | 2019-09-08 |
| Technical Level | Advanced |
| Products | Security Gateway |
| Versions | R82.10, R82, R81.20 |

## Symptoms

- * Output of '`cpwd_admin list`' command on Security Gateway shows that FWD daemon is in the state '`T`' (terminated)

  This means that FWD's child processes, such as daemons responsible for VPN and SecureAuth, are also not running.
* When starting FWD manually on Security Gateway using the '`fwd -d`' command, these are the last lines on the screen:

  `CLogFieldDictionaries::Init : No field was added`
  `Fatal error: failed to initialize global Log Field Dictionaries object, exit`
* The following errors were displayed during the upgrade of Security Gateway:

  `CLogFieldDictionaries::Init : No field was added`
  `Fatal error: failed to initialize global Log Field Dictionaries object, exit`
* After upgrade or migrate procedure, the FWD daemon does not start.

  Output of `mdsstat` command on Multi-Domain Management shows that FWD daemon on a specific CMA is in status 'DOWN'

## Cause

The upgrade / migrate procedure did not finish successfully. The following files were corrupted:

* *$FWDIR/conf/log_fields.C*
* *$FWDIR/conf/log_field_server_types.C*
* *$FWDIR/conf/log_actions.C*

**Note:** This issue could also occur after rebooting or restarting services outside of an upgrade/migrate proceedure if the above files have been corrupted.
