## Symptoms

- The Secure Computing token is in good order, but the PIN has been reset to an unknown code.

## Solution

**CAUTION:** If an authenticator (token) is already programmed, the following steps will erase the programming.

**NOTE:**These steps do not apply to the Safeword Platinum 3300 token. To reprogram this token, you need to use the programming pen. Please contact Safeword Computing for additional information on how to proceed(http://www.safenet-inc.com/)

**To reprogram a Secure Communicator token:**

Locate the `p.dat` file associated with the particular token (authenticator) that you want to program. The `p.dat` file contains a list of tokens and their reprogramming keys.

Simultaneously press and hold the token's **Entr, 0, ON** keys to place the token into programming mode manually.

The token should display **PC0** , indicating its readiness to receive programming commands in register 0.

With PC0 showing on the token display, enter the seven-digit number shown after PC0 on the Check Point software's Manual Program window. Do not enter spaces or dashes.

When the token receives the entire numerical string for PC0, it prompts for the second command string by displaying **PC1** .

With PC1 showing on the token display, enter the seven-digit number shown after PC1 on the Check Point software's Manual Program window.

When the token receives the entire numerical string for PC1, it prompts for the second command string by displaying **PC2** .

Continue entering each PCx command as prompted.

After entering the last set of values, a short scrolling message appears. If a hard PIN is used, the Platinum and Gold tokens displays the letters **EP** (for Enter Pin). Gold 3000/Platinum V2 tokens display **ENTR PIN** .

Enter the PIN shown in the Hard PIN field of the programming window into the token. As you enter the PIN, a dash (-) appears in place of each digit. It is not necessary to press the **Entr** key after entering the last digit of the PIN.

<br />

The token will then display a programming verification response. This response is based on the programming mode you selected (Synchronous or Challenge/Response).

<br />

Gold 3000/Platinum V2 tokens display the prompt **CHALLNG?**

You will now be able to use the token with the default PIN for access to Pointsec PC.
