## Solution

Background
----------

It is possible to export a complete list of administrators from Provider-1 / Multi-Domain Server from outside of Provider-1 MDG / SmartDomain Manager.

There is no way to modify the list of the exported administrators - only to export the complete list.

Procedure
---------

Two tools were developed in order to export a complete list of administrators:

* mdsquerydb
* export_admins

mdsquerydb {#mdsquerydb}
------------------------

**Description**
: The utility acts as a CPMI client that queries the Provider-1 MDS/Multi-Domain Server, or CMA/Domain Management Server for objects, based on pre-defined queries.

<br />

**Purpose**
: The tool can be used for automation (via UNIX shell scripts), or for accessing information stored inside the CheckPoint Management databases while working from the command line. These databases include the Global Database (usually accessed from the Global SmartDashboard), MDS Database (usually accessed from the MDG), and the Management Add-on database (usually accessed from SmartDashboard).
    Some Database queries are pre-defined in the `$MDSDIR/conf/queries.conf` configuration file (this file should never be edited by the end-users).

<br />

**Tool file**
:   Bourne shell script - `$MDSDIR/scripts/mdsquerydb`

<br />

**Output format**
: Exports the data in TXT format.

<br />

**Usage**
:   `[Expert@HostName]# mdsquerydb key_name [-f output_file_name]`

    Retrieve list of all pre-defined keys:
    `[Expert@HostName]# mdsquerydb`

<br />

**Syntax for exporting the list of all administrators**
:   `[Expert@HostName]# mdsquerydb Administrators [-f /path/output_file_name.txt]`

export_admins {#export_admins}
------------------------------

**Description**
: The utility acts as a CPMI client. It gets the administrators sets from the MDS CPMI server.

<br />

**Tool file**
:   ELF 32-bit LSB executable - `$MDSDIR/bin/export_admins`

<br />

**Output format**
: Exports the data in XML format.

<br />

**Usage**
:   `[Expert@HostName]# export_admins [-help | -?] [{-mds | -local} | -s server [ {-u username | -c certfile} [-p password]] ] [-o output_file_name]`

    Note: working with "`-mds`" or "`-local`" flag allows local bind (to 127.0.0.1) without using name/password.

<br />

**Syntax for exporting the list of all administrators**
:   `[Expert@HostName]# export_admins [{-mds | -local} | -s server [ {-u username | -c certfile} [-p password]] ] -o /path/output_file_name.txt`
