# sk30908 - FWD process consumes the CPU at 100% on Security Gateway due to Active Mode view in SmartView Tracker

## Symptoms

- * FWD process consumes the CPU at 100% on Security Gateway / Cluster Member(s).

* On cluster members, the output of "'`fw ctl pstat`'" command shows:
  `
  Sync: off`
  `
  Live connections update: on
  `

## Cause

Active Mode view is used in SmartView Tracker (middle tab "Active").

**Feature Description:**
Active mode shows active connections in the SmartView Tracker - connections currently open through any of the FireWall Modules that are logging to the currently active Log File.

**Feature Limitations:**
The feature is not scalable. Check Point strongly recommends avoiding this feature for systems handling large number of concurrent connections (more than 200 connections each lasting less than a few seconds), because:

* The feature puts enormous load on the Security Gateway.
* The feature consumes significant bandwidth, and competes with normal Security Gateway logs on network resources.
* The feature creates a significant load on the Management Server / Log Server.
