## Solution

Security Administrators may need to change the external IP addressed of their Security gateways, for example, when changing their organization's Internet Service Providers (ISP). Apply the procedure below to change the IP address on the external interface:

**Note:** Changing the IP is unique to each OS. The following steps do not address how to make that type of change. If the stand-alone Security gateway is also managing remote Security gateways, the `hosts` file information pertaining to each remote Security gateway must be changed.
**Scenario** :

The host name of the Security gateway is 'rumba'. The IP address is 10.0.30.200, and the desired IP address is 10.0.30.150.

**Warning:** Request a new license from your Check Point User Center account that reflects the updated external IP address on the Security gateway. Check Point recommends acquiring the new license before proceeding with the steps below.
**Procedure:**

1. Open the SmartDashboard and edit the object 'rumba.'

2. Change the IP address on the 'General' Tab to the desired IP address.

3. Edit the Topology tab, changing the IP address to the desired IP, and click OK to close the object.

4. Click File -\> Save.

5. Stop the Security gateway with the `cpstop` command.

6. Change the `/etc/hosts` file, so that 'rumba' resolves to address 10.0.30.150.

7. Change the IP address on the external interface of the machine.

**Note:** Remember to change the default route for the external interface on the OS.

8. If the license of the Security gateway is against the original IP address, change the license to the new IP address.

9. Reboot the machine.

10. Ping the host 'rumba' to verify that it properly resolves to the new IP address.

11. Connect with the SmartDashboard, verify the configuration, and install the Security Policy.
