# sk185059 - Cannot view Remote Access VPN users or enforce Access Policy in Spark Firewall appliances

## Symptoms

- * Connected Remote Access VPN users do not appear on the "Connected Remote Users" page in the WebUI.

* Access Policy rules are not enforced for Remote Access users.

## Cause

Starting from:

* R81.10.17 build 996004901

* R82.00.10 build 998002203

The system sets the Identity Awareness (IDA) main process to **inactive** by default.

When IDA is inactive, the system cannot associate VPN connections with user identities. As a result:

* Users are not displayed in the WebUI.

* Access Policy rules based on user identity are not enforced.

## Solution

Turn on the User Awareness blade.

**Procedure:**

1. Log in to the Spark Firewall appliance.

2. In the WebUI, go to the **Users and Objects** view \> **Users Management** section \> **User Awareness** page.

3. Turn on **User Awareness**.

**Note -** A warning message may be displayed: *"User Awareness requires further configuration - missing user identification method."*

You can ignore this warning if user identity enforcement is not required.
