# sk185021 - eMMC Lifetime  Indications

## Symptoms

- When you run on the Security Gateway in clish mode the command `show diag` the output includes an indication similar to:
"*Critical wear --- requires immediate action
Lifetime utilization: 100%*".

## Cause

The Spark Firewall reports two independent eMMC (embedded MultiMediaCard) health indicators:  

* *Lifetime utilization*, which reports the number of program/erase cycles the eMMC flash cells have accumulated relative to their rated maximum.
* *End of Life (EOL)* status, which reflects remaining internal spare capacity.


The indication at 100% Lifetime utilization is triggered by the component-level endurance threshold of the eMMC and does not indicate that the appliance is no longer operational.
