# sk184783 - SmartConsole shows continuously increasing VPN Cloud Engine sessions on the Security Management Server

## Symptoms

- * In SmartConsole \> **Manage \& Settings** \> **Sessions Manager** \> **View Sessions** , multiple sessions labeled **VPN Cloud Engine** are continuously created on the Security Management Server (SMS). A new **VPN Cloud Engine** session appears approximately every minute.

* Previously created **VPN Cloud Engine** sessions remain open instead of closing, so that the total number of active sessions grows.

* SmartConsole Audit logs show recurring Web API session creation, which can consume Security Management Server resources.

## Cause

An AutoUpdater component update for the VPN Configuration Engine (VCE) enables VPN cloud monitoring by default when the related parameters are not explicitly set in the *$FWDIR/conf/vsec.conf* file. If the parameters `<vendor>.runVpnCloudMonitor` are missing, the default behavior is enabled. As a result, the vsec / VCE component repeatedly creates **VPN Cloud Engine** Web API sessions (approximately once per minute). The sessions do not close automatically and accumulate, which creates excessive session entries and related logging / resource usage.
