# sk184729 - CPUSE Jumbo Hotfix installation fails with "Failed creating backup archive"

| Products | Security Management Server |
| Versions | R81.20, R81.10 (EOS) |

## Symptoms

- * A Security Management Server upgrade to a newer Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator fails during installation when initiated from Gaia Portal using Check Point Upgrade Service Engine (CPUSE).

* The file `/var/log/CPUSE/DA_UI.log` contains errors similar to:

  `
  Install of package Check_Point_R81_20_jumbo_hf_main_Bundle_T118_FULL.tgz Failed`
  `
  Failed creating backup archive`
  `
Failed to extract older backup file`
  `
  Source: /opt/CPda/backup/CheckPoint#CPUpdates#All#6.0#5#4#BUNDLE_R81_20_JUMBO_HF_MAIN#65/LastTake/fw1_backup_HOTFIX_R81_20_JUMBO_HF_MAIN.tgz`
  `
  Destination: /ramdisk/ping/tmp/HFbackupBckComp_*
  `
* In the directory below, multiple component backup archives (`*.tgz`) are 0 bytes, for example:

  `/opt/CPda/backup/CheckPoint#CPUpdates#All#6.0#5#4#BUNDLE_R81_20_JUMBO_HF_MAIN#65/LastTake/`

## Cause

During a Jumbo Hotfix installation, CPUSE relies on the existing LastTake backup archives under:

`/opt/CPda/backup/.../LastTake/`

These archives are used to validate and build backups for components that will be updated.

If the existing LastTake component archives are empty or corrupted (0 KB), CPUSE fails when attempting to extract a previous backup archive into a temporary "ramdisk" location:

`Failed to extract older backup file`

As a result, the backup creation phase fails and CPUSE aborts the Jumbo Hotfix installation.
