## Symptoms

- The following message appears in */var/log/messages* on a Gaia Security Gateway after configuring DHCP Server: `dhcpd: DHCPREQUEST for <IP address> from <MAC address> via ethN: ignored (not authoritative)`

## Cause

This message is generated by the ISC DHCP daemon when it receives a DHCPREQUEST for an IP address in a subnet for which the DHCP server is not authoritative.
A DHCP server becomes authoritative only when its configuration contains: `authoritative;`.
Without this directive, the daemon ignores unknown leases rather than sending a DHCPNAK
