# sk184623 - Processing large Threat Emulation messages causes high memory usage and DLPU crashes

## Symptoms

- Gateways performing Threat Emulation (TE) may experience increasing memory usage in user?space processes such as DLPU, FWK, and TEmain. DLPU memory may grow to tens of gigabytes, which can cause the DLPU process to stop and lead to TE interruptions or instability.

## Cause

The TE daemon may send very large, serialized messages to DLPU, each up to approximately 1 GB in size. During deserialization, these messages can expand significantly in memory, leading to extreme transient memory usage within DLPU potentially up to 30 GB.  
Although the memory is released after processing completes, repeated handling of such large messages can result in sustained high memory consumption and may cause DLPU crashes.  
This issue is due to a product defect in how DLPU handles large TE payloads.

## Solution

This problem was fixed. The fix is included starting from:

* [Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator for R82](https://sc1.checkpoint.com/documents/Jumbo_HFA/R82/Default.htm) starting from Take 118

Check Point recommends to always upgrading to the most recent version.
