# sk184572 - Changing Sync interface on Check Point Firewall 3950 Appliances in ElasticXL mode

## Symptoms

- * On Quantum 3950 appliances running R82.10 in ElasticXL mode, the Sync port defaults to eth11, which is one of the 10Gbps ports on the appliance.

* The First Time Configuration Wizard does not let you select a different interface for the Sync bond.  

  As a result, one 10 Gbps interface is reserved for Sync traffic and is not available for data traffic.

* You cannot move the Sync assignment to another interface by using Gaia Portal or SmartConsole alone.

## Cause

The ElasticXL implementation in R82.10 for Quantum 3950 appliances does not provide a dedicated 'Sync' port by default.

The Operating System logic selects the highest numbered port (eth11) as the Sync port if no port is explicitly named 'Sync'.
