# sk184544 - Network Feed Test Fails on ClusterXL Object

## Symptoms

- * When testing a network feed from the API or SmartConsole, the connection fails with the error:  

  `Connection failed for 10.0.0.12. Make sure that the machine is up and running, and that Secure Internal Communication (SIC) has been established.`

* SmartConsole confirms that SIC works for both cluster members.

* No drops to the cluster VIP appear in the logs.

* Testing the feed directly to a cluster member succeeds, but fails when targeting the cluster object. The GUI test only allows the cluster object as a target.

## Cause

The cluster object in SmartConsole uses a Main IP address (Virtual IP) that is not reachable from the Security Management Server. The "Test IOC/Network Feed" function requires the Main IP to be reachable via ICMP from the Security Management Server. If it is not, the test fails with a generic SIC error.
