# sk184518 - Dynamic Routing Protocol Routes Cannot Be Redistributed into Static Routes

## Symptoms

- It is not possible to redistribute routes learned via dynamic routing protocols (such as OSPF or BGP) into static routes on Gaia--based appliances and Quantum Spark appliances.

## Cause

Static routing and dynamic routing serve different purposes and are handled differently:

* Static routes are always manually configured by the administrator and are not learned or updated dynamically.
* Dynamic routes are learned via routing protocols such as OSPF or BGP.

Route redistribution on Check Point platforms only supports the following scenarios:

* Advertising static routes into dynamic protocols (for example, OSPF or BGP)
* Advertising routes from one dynamic protocol into another dynamic protocol

Redistributing or automatically converting dynamic routes into static routes is **not**supported. Static routes must always be created and managed manually.
