# sk184443 - Sites fail to load or load slowly when HTTPS Inspection is enabled with this error: "Gzip exceeded maximum decompression ratio"

## Symptoms

- * Some websites intermittently fail to load or load very slowly when HTTPS Inspection is enabled. Users refresh pages multiple times to access them. This most commonly affects sites with large or highly compressed content, such as YouTube or mapping services sites.

* Anti-Virus logs show this error repeatedly:  

  "*Gzip exceeded maximum decompression ratio*".

## Cause

* The Gzip Enforcement protection is designed to prevent resource exhaustion attacks by limiting the amount of data decompressed from Gzip streams.
* By default, the Security Gateway inspects Gzip-compressed content only if:
  * The decompressed size is less than 1024 KB, and
  * The decompression ratio (decompressed size � compressed size) is below 100:1.
* Some legitimate web content, especially highly compressed or repetitive data, can exceed these thresholds, causing the Security Gateway to block or fail to process the content. This results in slow or incomplete page loads and the Anti-Virus log error above.
