# sk184403 - DNS traffic is dropped  with "Unknown Resource Record" message

## Symptoms

- * Significant latency and performance issues are observed for multiple business applications.
* Legitimate DNS traffic dropped with the *"dns_unknown_rr_block"* message (IPS blocked DNS traffic due to unknown resource record detection).

## Cause

IPS protection **Unknown Resource Record**incorrectly identified legitimate DNS traffic as suspicious and blocked it. This behavior is due to a false positive in IPS detection logic.

## Solution

[Contact Check Point Support](https://www.checkpoint.com/support-services/contact-support/) to get a Hotfix for this issue.

A Support Engineer will make sure the Hotfix is compatible with your environment before providing it.  
For faster resolution and verification, collect these files:

2. [CPinfo](https://support.checkpoint.com/results/sk/sk92739) file from the Security Gateway / each Cluster Member / Security Group involved in the case.
