# sk184400 - "The object name must not contain whitespace characters at the beginning or the end" message in SmartConsole "Validations" pane after an upgrade of the Security Management Server

## Symptoms

- * After upgrading the Security Management Server from R81.20 to R82, SmartConsole shows this message in the "Validations" pane:

  `The object name must not contain whitespace characters at the beginning or the end."`

* Removing and recreating the affected rule does not resolve the error.

## Cause

During the upgrade process, a validation incident related to rule naming remained in a stuck or orphaned state in the Management Server database. This caused SmartConsole to continue displaying the error in the "Validations" pane, even after deleting and recreating the problematic rule.
