# sk184398 - Querying IPS Staging Protections in SmartConsole fails with "Cannot show logs of over 1500 unique protections" after an upgrade

## Symptoms

- * After an upgrade, querying IPS Staging Protections in SmartConsole fails with "*Cannot show logs of over 1500 unique protections*".
* This error persists even when the number of protections in staging mode is reduced to fewer than 1500. Other log queries function normally, only the staging query is affected.
* SmartConsole debug logs show that the system is processing results based on total active protections rather than limiting the count to protections in staging mode only.

## Cause

R82 introduced changes to log filtering behavior that impact how queries are processed. The staging query now combines multiple internal filters alongside the staging filter itself, causing the system to evaluate the total number of active protections rather than just those in staging. When this combined total exceeds the 1500-protection system limit, the query fails regardless of the actual number of staged protections.
