## Symptoms

- Policy installation succeeds, but the following warning appears in SmartConsole (in the **Install Policy Details** window):

`The policy target hostname_gateway does not have the required topology configuration in its interface(s). When you select the Internet object in the Destination column of a rule, you must configure the topology of the application interface (that connects to the Internet) in all policy targets as External or DMZ. Without the correct interface topology configuration, Security Gateway cannot match traffic to this rule.`

This warning appears even though the external interface is configured as `External` or `DMZ`.

## Cause

The `leads_to_internet` parameter for the external interface is set to `false` in the GuiDBedit Tool (an advanced configuration tool for editing database objects).

As a result, the Management Server does not recognize the interface as external.

Note: The `leads_to_internet` parameter specifies that an interface or route leads directly to the Internet. This allows the system to identify the Internet-facing path for routing, policy enforcement, and failover decisions.
