| Property | Value |
|----------|-------|
| Solution ID | sk184227 |
| Date Created | 2025-10-27 |

| Technical Level | Advanced |
| Products | Security Management Server |
| Versions | R82, R81.20 |
| Platform | VMWare ESX |

## Symptoms

- * Security Management Server upgrade from R81.20 to R82 fails on VMWare during the database import step, resulting in an automatic rollback.

* After the upgrade starts, the Virtual Machine(VM) reboots and becomes unreachable from the network for approximately an hour, displays "system is still upgrading" on the console, then automatically reboots and reverts back to R81.20.

* These error messages are shown in the Event Log / SmartConsole:

  `
"Failed during import process, contact Check Point Technical Services for further assistance"
"Failed to import check if upgrade_web_client jar is compatible"`

* Updating to the latest recommended R81.20 Jumbo Hotfix Accumulator and checking for custom hotfix conflicts did not resolve the issue.

* Error in the $FWDIR/log/cpm.elg log file:

  `
ERROR services.internal.AutoUpdateSvcImpl [taskScheduler-9]: Failed to update object... CpmGeneralException{... message='no stored dle session id found. HINT: Make sure to propagate dle session id for this thread'}`

## Cause

The vmxnet3 driver on Gaia R81.20 VM causes missing driver issues, leading to network connectivity failure during upgrade.
