# sk183868 - Daily short-lived 100% CPU spikes on Quantum Security Gateways

## Symptoms

- * Monitoring systems report 100% CPU usage via SNMP for one-second duration, occurring daily.
* No spikes are detected by Spike Detective, `cpview`, or system logs (`/var/log/messages`).

## Cause

**Root Cause 1:** The "`dmesg analysis`" test in the HealthCheck Point (HCP) report, triggered by a default `cron` job every 6 hours, caused high CPU usage. The `dmesg.py` script was not optimized, which led to excessive CPU consumption.

**Root Cause 2:**The "Generating Charts" test in HCP caused additional short CPU spikes. This is expected behavior due to heavy database operations during the chart generation.
