# sk183857 - "Get Topology" operation in a Security Gateway object fails when there is another Security Gateway between the Management Server and the target Security Gateway

## Symptoms

- * In SmartConsole, the "Get Topology" operation in a Security Gateway object fails with:

  `Failed to connect to <Name of Object> (IP Address: "<X.X.X.X>").`  
  `
  Please make sure Check Point Services are running on <Name of Object>, and trust has been established`
* The SIC State in the Security Gateway object is "`Trust established`".

  When clicking the "`Test SIC Status`" button, the "`SIC Status`" window shows "`Communicating`".
* Traffic capture on the Management Server during the "Get Topology" operation (with the filter for the IP address of the Management Server and for the IP address of the target Security Gateway) shows that the Management Server sends TCP \[SYN\] packets to the Security Gateway to the TCP port 256, but never receives a reply from the Security Gateway.

* Traffic capture on the Security Gateway during the "Get Topology" operation (with the filter for the IP address of the Management Server and for the IP address of the target Security Gateway) shows that the TCP \[SYN\] packets from the Management Server never arrive to the Security Gateway to the TCP port 256.

## Cause

In the reported case, there was an additional Security Gateway between the Management Server and the target Security Gateway.
