# sk183848 - Significant latency in VoIP traffic when using Non-FQDN objects

## Symptoms

- Significant latency in VoIP traffic when using Non-FQDN objects in the Access Control rules.

## Cause

The latency is caused by the use of non-Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) objects in the Access Control policy.

When non-FQDN objects are present, the Security Gateway performs reverse DNS lookups for these domains (see [sk120633](https://support.checkpoint.com/results/sk/sk120633)), which introduces significant delays in processing the initial packets of VoIP calls.

This behavior is especially problematic in dynamic environments like VoIP, where timely packet delivery is critical.

The issue persists even when non-FQDN objects were not directly related to the specific traffic, as their presence in the policy (including in Threat Prevention exceptions and Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) rules) triggered the reverse lookup mechanism, affecting all traffic matching those rules.
