## Symptoms

- * After upgrading an R81.10 Virtual System Extension (VSX) cluster to R81.20 using the `vsx_util upgrade` command, some Virtual Systems (VSs) fail to start.

* The affected VSs are still marked as R81.10 instead of upgraded to R81.20.

* No error messages appear during the `vsx_util` upgrade process, but the VSX Firewall objects are not updated.

* Attempts to downgrade with `vsx_util downgrade` only partially revert VS versions, creating more inconsistencies.

* Manual deletion of duplicate entries in the `install_statuses` table via the Graphical User Interface Database Editor (GuiDBedit) do not resolve the issue, as changes are overwritten.

* The issue persists across multiple upgrade attempts and environments, including both laboratory and production systems.

## Cause

The failure occurs because of duplicate entries for the affected VSs in the `install_statuses` table of the Check Point management database.
Explanation:

* The duplicate entries result from previous upgrade attempts and remain uncleared.
* A Check Point background process keeps a cached copy of these entries, overwriting manual edits made in GuiDBedit.
* Orphaned VSs from previously deleted domains further contribute to database inconsistencies.

Because of these issues, the` vsx_util upgrade` command cannot correctly update the VSX Firewall objects to R81.20.
