# sk183807 - Cannot perform a Secure Copy Protocol backup to a new remote SCP backup server via Gaia Portal

## Symptoms

- * The Security Gateway cannot perform a Secure Copy Protocol (SCP) backup to a new remote SCP backup server using Gaia Portal.

* Gaia Portal displays the error message `ERR_HOST_BASED_AUTH` during the backup attempts.

* A manual SCP copy using the Command Line Interface (CLI) in the Expert mode succeeds, but scheduled or immediate backup via Gaia Portal fails.

## Cause

The issue occurs because the Quantum Security Gateway's Gaia OS does not have the correct SSH public key fingerprint for the remote backup host in the `known_hosts` file.

The Gaia Portal backup process requires the SSH key to be present and correctly registered in this file. Previous attempts to add the fingerprint via Gaia Portal or CLISH did not properly update the file, resulting in authentication failures.

Manual SCP operations from the Expert mode succeed because they prompt for and register the key interactively, but the automated backup process does not.
