# sk183797 - Cannot edit port number in system-defined service object 'SMTPS' in the WebUI on Spark Firewall

| Property | Value |

| Solution ID | sk183797 |
| Date Created | 2025-08-27 |

| Technical Level | General |
| Products | Spark Firewall (Locally Managed) |
| Versions | R81.10.X |

## Symptoms

- In R81.10.15 and above, the following occurs when you edit the system-defined service object SMTPS in the WebUI:

* When you save changes, this error appears: `Cannot change prototype of system default services`
* Some fields normally greyed out (for example, **Disable Inspection for this service**) remain editable but still trigger the same error.
* Attempts to change other advanced settings (for example, **Session timeout**) also fail.
* After cancelling the error, some options (for example, **Aggressive aging**) disappear from the settings window.
* After applying a workaround firmware, you can save the changes, but the **Reset** button for the port number does not restore the default value for newly added service objects like SMTPS. The **Reset** button works for older objects such as HTTP.

## Cause

A WebUI validation issue for system-defined service objects (such as SMTPS) in version R81.10.15 and later prevents users from editing certain fields, including the port number. The validation incorrectly blocks changes and does not properly handle the **Reset** functionality for newly added service objects. This issue applies to service objects introduced in recent firmware versions and does not impact legacy objects.

## Solution

This problem was fixed. The fix is included starting from:

* [R81.10.17 for Quantum Spark Appliances](https://support.checkpoint.com/results/sk/sk179615)(Build 4678)

After upgrading:

1. Log in to the WebUI.
2. Edit the port number and other settings in the system-defined service object 'SMTPS'.
3. Make sure you can save changes without an error appearing, and that the **Reset**button restores the default value for newly added service objects.
