## Symptoms

- * When attempting to fetch contracts from the Check Point User Center using SmartUpdate, this error message appears: "*Could not fetch contracts from the Check Point User Center.*"

* Packet captures show a completed three-way handshake and subsequent application data transmission.

## Cause

SmartUpdate connects to the User Center through the following path:

**SmartUpdate** \> **License \& Contract** \> **Update Contracts** \> **From User Center...**

This action prompts the user to enter a username and password. However, external API access to the User Center using basic authentication (username and password) is no longer supported.

SmartUpdate does not currently support multi-factor authentication (MFA) or other secure authentication methods for accessing the User Center. Therefore, contract fetching via this method fails.
