# sk183496 - Each Cluster Member reports the state of all its peers as "Down" or "Lost" after a failover within a High Availability Bond

## Symptoms

- Each Cluster Member reports the state of all its peers as "Down" or "Lost" in this scenario:

1. There is one Bond interface configured in the High Availability mode.

2. In the ClusterXL object on the Management Server, all interfaces are configured with the Network Type "Private", except the Bond interface.

3. Internal failover occurs in this Bond interface.

## Cause

The Bond interface is the only monitored interface, on which the Cluster Members can send the Cluster Control Protocol (CCP) packets (refer to the output of the "`cphaprob -a if`" command). Therefore, no CCP packets are sent over any other interface between the Cluster Members.

If an internal failover occurs within the Bond (e.g., the active subordinate interface goes down briefly, or an administrator initiates a manual failover with the command "`cphaconf bond_failover <Name of Bond Interface>`"), the CCP packets can no longer be transmitted to the peer Cluster Members.

This leads to a communication mismatch between the Cluster Members (a split-brain scenario):

1. The cluster state of the Bond interface changes to "Down" on all Cluster Members.
2. Each Cluster Member reports its local cluster state as "Active" and reports the cluster state of all its peers as "Down" or "Lost".
