## Symptoms

- * In rare scenarios, a Maestro Security Group running in VSX mode fails over unexpectedly.

* The `/var/log/messages` file contains these kernel crash back traces:

  ```
  kernel:  <IRQ>  [<ffffffff8178fde0>] dump_stack+0x1e/0x20
  ```

* There are RX/TX errors / drops on the BPEth interfaces:

  ```
  Interface BPEth0 have issues with: RX-DRP: 552943
  Interface BPEth1 have issues with: RX-DRP: 728245
  Interface ethsBP1-01 have issues with: RX-DRP: 50227
  Interface ethsBP1-02 have issues with: RX-DRP: 107328
  ```

* The `dmesg` logs contain interface link errors:

  ```
  i40e 0000:65:00.3 ethsBP1-04: tx_timeout: VSI_seid: 399, Q 6, NTC: 0x270, HWB: 0x270, NTU: 0x259,
   TAIL: 0x259, INT: 0x1
  i40e 0000:65:00.3 ethsBP1-04: tx_timeout recovery level 1, hung_queue 6
  BPEth1: link status down for interface ethsBP1-04, disabling it in 200 ms
  BPEth1: link status down for interface ethsBP1-04, disabling it in 200 ms
  BPEth1: link status down for interface ethsBP1-04, disabling it in 200 ms
  ```

## Cause

A kernel crash triggered the failover. The crash occurred due to a transmission timeout (tx_timeout) when the affected interface was already down. This condition caused repeated link failures and unstable interface behavior, leading to the failover of the Maestro Security Group.

Check Point recommends to always upgrade to the [Recommended version](https://support.checkpoint.com/results/sk/sk95746) ([Security Gateway](https://support.checkpoint.com/product/73) / [VSX](https://support.checkpoint.com/product/359)).

If you choose not to upgrade, [contact Check Point Support](https://www.checkpoint.com/support-services/contact-support/) to get a Hotfix for your version.

A Support Engineer will make sure the Hotfix is compatible with your environment before providing it.
