# sk183227 - MEPP Delays when accessing external drives/storage

## Symptoms

- * External storage devices (USBs, SD cards) experience extreme access delays (sometimes exceeding 30 minutes)
* While drives remain in "Waiting for scan" or "Not authorized state," all access is blocked
* Disabling the policy requiring the scanning and authentication of storage devices resolves the issue.

## Cause

When external media is connected, a UI update triggers a ping to the driver, which initiates a change in authorization state. This creates a loop where each state change triggers another UI update, resulting in a continuous cycle that severely delays drive authorization and access.

A Support Engineer will make sure the Endpoint Security Client is compatible with your environment before providing it.
