# sk183096 - After adding a new unassigned Security Appliance to a Maestro Security Group, it does not become a new Security Group Member

## Symptoms

- * After adding a new unassigned Security Appliance to a Maestro Security Group, it does not become a new Security Group Member.

  Maestro Orchestrator shows "`Joining`" for the Security Appliance that was added to the Security Group.

  This status does not change. The Security Appliance does not reboot.
* Different subordinate interfaces appear in the outputs of these commands:

  * The command "`lldpneighbors`" on the Maestro Orchestrator - for the new Security Appliance
  * The command "`cat /proc/net/bonding/BPEth<X>`" on the new Security Appliance (working in the console connection)
* The command "`cat /proc/net/bonding/BPEth<X>`" on the new Security Appliance (working in the console connection) shows the MII Status is Down for subordinate interfaces.

* The `/etc/smodb.json` file on the Security Group, in the section "`private`" \> "`maestro`" \> in the parameter "`bpeth_driver_type`", shows a different network interface driver than expected for the connected Line Card.

  Example - the "ice" driver instead of the expected "mlnx5" driver:

  `"bpeth_driver_type" : "ice"`

## Cause

When creating the internal bond `BPEth<X>`, the Security Appliance first tries to use the Line Card that is inserted into the leftmost slot, even if the Line Card in the next slot is connected to the Maestro Orchestrator.

In the reported case, the Security Appliance 9700 had two Line Cards:

* Line Card in the leftmost slot is 4-Port 10/25GB.  
  This card was not connected to the Maestro Orchestrator.  
  This card uses the "`ice`" driver.
* Line Card in the next slot from the left is 2-Port 40/100GB.  
  This card was connected to the Maestro Orchestrator.  
  This card uses the "`mlnx5`" driver.
