# sk183013 - How to Generate and Reset an API Token in ERM

## Solution

An ERM API token allows users to use the ERM API for tasks such as viewing alerts or IoC content.  

**To generate or reset an API token in ERM** :  

1. Access the ERM Administrator Portal.
2. On the side panel, click **User Settings** .

3. In the **Generate API Token** section, click **Generate API Token** to create a new token or reset an existing one.

   After the system generates the API token, a banner appears.

   Do one of these:
   * Click **Copy Token To Clipboard** to copy the token.
   * Click **Download Token To File** to download the token to a file.

   **Notes:**   
   * Save the token securely as it will not be displayed again. If lost, you must generate a new token.
   * The API token is unique to each user and should not be shared.
