## Symptoms

- * iPhones running iOS versions 16.x do not resolve hostnames when connected with Capsule Connect. All resources are reachable through the direct IP addresses.

* DNS configured for Office Mode appears to be unreachable or unused by the iOS device.

* The procedure in [sk137676](https://support.checkpoint.com/results/sk/sk137676 ) does not resolve the issue.

* A public DNS server, such as 8.8.8.8, is configured as one of the DNS servers for Office Mode.

## Cause

The changes in iOS 16 include a preference for encrypted DNS when available. Because servers like 8.8.8.8 support DoH/DoT, the preference is for resolving addresses with this server. This behavior prevents the iOS device from using the intended internal DNS servers to resolve internal domain names through the VPN.
